Most Common Endodontic Procedures:

1. Root Canal Therapy: One of the most common Endodontic Procedures is Root canal Therapy. This procedure is used when there is a last chance left to save the teeth.During a root canal, our endodontist will cut out a small opening in the crown of the tooth to carefully check the pulp chamber. Then they will remove any infected pulp and disinfect the pulp area and the tooth to save you from further infection spreads.The tooth will be now filled with a dental material (usually, it is a thermoplastic material like gutta percha or resin material that’s acid etched.) and sealed pack again. It usually takes one to two appointments to complete the procedure.

This treatment is usually a very successful procedure. In fact, the success rate of root canal is above 95%.

1. Apicoectomy: We perform this procedure only when the infection is at the tip of the tooth root after a root canal. The endodontist will make a small incision in your gum tissue to access the tip.
   Now the infected tissue will be removed, and the end of the root will be sealed with a special filling material. An apicoectomy is usually performed in one appointment. The success rate of apicoectomy is over 90%.
2. Cracked Tooth Treatment: You can feel pain, sensitivity, or even infection with a cracked tooth. Endodontists repair cracked teeth using various techniques like crowns or bonding. Sometimes, even a root canal might be needed to save the tooth.
3. Trauma Treatment: Teeth trauma can lead to infection or inflammation. Endodontists treat trauma using various techniques like root canal therapy or pulp capping. It depends on the severity of the trauma caused.

• They will cut open to access the pulp chamber around the infected tooth.
• The infected pulp will be removed from the chamber.
• The insides of the tooth will also be cleaned and disinfected.
• They will seal the tooth area with a special sealing material.
• You may be given antibiotics after the procedure is completed to prevent further infection spread.

Additional Endodontic Procedures

In addition to the 4 methods mentioned above, the Endodontic Procedure may also have many other forms of procedures under it, such as;

• Internal Resorption
• External resorption
• Retreatment
• Periradicular surgery

These procedures are less popular than the 4 mentioned above and are usually performed when the above 4 have failed in some way.
